Sydney to Canberra Overnight Trip Summary
Joining our overnight Canberra tour is perfect for those who would really like to get to know our nation’s capital city! You have the benefits of a fully organised day tour, a night accommodation at a great hostel, plus a free morning and afternoon to spend as you please! We travel with a small group from Sydney through Australian bush and sheep country and visit all Canberra’s highlights!
Your driver guide for the day picks you up early morning and soon you’re en route to our Bush Capital, cruising the NSW Southern Highlands through small typical Australian country towns. We take a break for coffee (own expense) and time to stretch your legs before arriving at Canberra. We take a guided tour at Canberra Parliament House; an architectural masterpiece costing $1.1 billion. From the inner walls of power to walking on the roof, this is an amazing spot to explore.
We take a break for lunch (own expense) before you spend two hours at your leisure at the National Museum of Australia. The modern National Museum of Australia is well-known for controversial expositions regarding key issues of Australia’s social history, people, and events.
After your free time, you re-join the group for a visit of the Australian War Memorial. Time for reflection as you learn about the legends of Gallipoli, the ANZACs, and sacrifices and losses suffered by Australians in past wars fought around the world. We then take a drive through Yarralumla, one of Canberra’s largest suburbs for a close look of the many national embassies. Each embassy is uniquely designed to reflect aspects of their country’s culture.
At the end of the day, we drop you at your accommodation, the Canberra City YHA, located in the heart of the city with restaurants, bars, cafes, and shops only minutes’ walk away. Check in and relax, then head out into the night!
After breakfast (included) you have the all morning and early afternoon free to spend at your leisure! From visiting the Old Bus Depot Market to hiring a bicycle and zooming along on Canberra’s extensive and safe cycleways, from checking out multi-million artworks in the National Gallery of Australia to the Floriade Flower Festival in spring, there are lots of cool things to see and do!
At 2.30 pm, you jump on your express coach back to Sydney, where you arrive at 6 pm.
