Trip Itinerary

When we arrive at the open-air museum of Sovereign Hill, it feels like we’ve travelled back in time, to the 1850s to be precise. Gold was first discovered in Sovereign Hill in 1851, at the start of the Australian gold rush. The second-largest gold nugget in the world was found just around the corner in the RedHill mine in Ballarat. The goldfields town of Sovereign Hill has a truly original feel with traditional shops, hotels, a theatre, schools, factories, costumed characters and over 40 horses!

Expect to see street theatre, live music from the gold rush era and get excited panning for gold yourself! Your fun, personal guide will take you on a journey by sharing his ‘rages of riches’ story, giving you a great insight on the colonial history of Victoria. Then head deep underground on a guided mine tour and get an understanding on how dark and dangerous deep lead mining actually was!

We finish the mine tour with a couple of drinks at the famous United States Hotel, then we take you to Daylesford, a town in the foothills of the Great Dividing Range famous for its revitalising springs. Explore the characteristic little town and check out its renowned art galleries. From Daylesford, it’s short trip to the five million year old Trentham Falls, Victoria’s highest single-drop waterfall!

Your day at Sovereign Hill will be truly unique and nothing you’ve ever seen or done before! Our Sovereign Hill tour departs every Monday, Wednesday and Friday!
